Workout can help you avoid the common colds. A new research placed more than 100 overweight older women on a moderate exercise regimen of treadmill walking, stationary cycling, or rapid walking; another group simply had weekly stretching classes. Over a 12 month period, the number of colds went down in the exercise group but rose moderately in the stretching group. By yearend, the stretching group was three times more likely to report a cold than the moderate-exercise group. The benefit seemed to increase the longer exercise regimen was followed.
