Here are the signs of being a pushover parent:
- I have a strong need for my child to treat me as a peer or best friend.
- I have a strong need for my child to perceive me as a “cool” parent.
- I am uncomfortable or have difficulty enforcing disciplinary action on my child for fear that he or she may not like me.
- I know that my child manipulates or takes advantage of me but I have a hard time saying “no.”
- Other people think that I spoil my child or that I am very lax or permissive.
- I want my child to be independent at an early age so I allow him as much freedom to make his or her own decisions.
- I threaten my child with disciplinary action but I often do not carry it out.
- I am unable to control my child’s demanding, defiant, self-centered, and insensitive behavior.
